The African elephant is currently the largest land animal, reaching up to 4 meters in height and weighing approximately 7 tons. It lives primarily in sub-Saharan Africa, but also in northern South Africa. This mammal is easily recognizable thanks to its long ivory tusks, which can weigh up to 100 kg each, and its trunk, which it uses for feeding. Unlike its cousin, the Asian elephant, it has larger ears, less hair, and a more rounded back. The species is currently declining due to poaching and the progressive destruction of its habitat.
